I have been using a UMC202HD which is a two channel version and I needed a second audio interface for a PC in another room so I decided to get the 404HD this time around because I'm so impressed and happy with the product. The quality of sound is ridiculously good considering the price. The build is pretty good, but of course it's not as solid as something costing far more. I can feel the slightest amount of play with the knobs and phones input so I can already tell without opening it that it's directly mounted to the circuit board without any support. I don't expect this to be a problem for me as since I don't tweak the knobs as often as someone running a professional studio.I don't have a dedicated recording studio and my microphones are not in the thousand dollar range, so the benefits of a super expensive interface would have made no difference in my situation. I record at home so the acoustics aren't optimized like a purpose built studio where the differences are perceptible.I use Audacity a lot and because that software can't do multiple interfaces at the same time, so the 404HD gives me more channels so that I can record from multiple microphones which allows me to choose and mix. It also allows me to not have to physically swap inputs and change input settings and levels along with that. I'd rather not wear out the panel connectors either. I don't necessarily regret buying the 202HD, but after buying the 404HD, I think that for the extra money, it is worth having the extra channels if simply for the convenience and future proofing.I bought this to replace the same Behringer model which I lost to a home fire this summer. As far as I'm concerned, this unit is the cat's meow when it comes to audio interfaces for home studio recording on computer, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to make ultra clean, ultra low latency recordings without having to spend a fortune to do so.The unit arrived with a non functional USB cable. It was a bit of a headache setting up with the Mac, I assumed it was something to do with Apples silicon. Luckily we had a few usb cables laying around so I didn’t bother returning it. However, this makes me feel insecure about the longevity of the product.Excelente artículoI once bought a model kit of a vintage 1900's car that boasted it had over 100 parts. However the assembly instructions consisted of a single small sheet that showed the chassis of the car and over a hundred arrows showing where each part went. It was all there but it was also useless. The pitiful documentation they include with this product does a great disservice to its quality and usefulness. There are a lot of YouTube videos and blogs talking about how to use it but it really underlines the fact that it is missing important documentation with reasonable explanations of usage. The two missing stars are for the lack of documentation, not for the quality and value of the product.Trabaja muy bienI like this unit overall. It's easy to use, doesn't seem to have any major flaws, and it fits perfectly into my workflow. The only negative that I can find is that the pre-maps are a bit finicky. Then tend to overload easily. It's not a major problem, you just have to make sure that you have your system gain structure set correctly.Other than that one issue, it's fine little interface!Easy to set up and to use, light and compact, high quality, perfect! This is a fantastic USB soundcard. It supports 4 simultaneous inputs and outputs, with 4 mic preamps featuring 48V phantom power. It also has MIDI in and out, a headphone socket, and control knobs to control input gain and output levels. The inputs are available on both balanced XLR and balanced line input sockets. Outputs 1 and 2 are available on balanced XLR, balanced line, and unbalanced RCA phono. Outputs 3 and 4 are available on unbalanced line and unbalanced RCA phono connections. All four channels also feature mono insert returns, allowing for use of external hardware effects.Controls are as follows: four input gain knobs, one per channel, as well as a button to switch between mic level and line level input signals. On the output side, there's a single knob to control the level of outputs 1 and 2, another for the Phones output, and a Mix knob. This knob controls the hardware mixing between input and playback levels - if turned towards the left, any signals coming into the inputs will be sent to the main outputs 1 & 2. This allows monitoring of any inputs alongside anything being played back, allowing you to record one or more instruments or vocals while listening to previously recorded tracks. This is done entirely in hardware with zero latency and not requiring any software setup. If you'd prefer to keep the input signals out of the playback, turn this knob all the way to the right, marked "PB" for Playback.Four buttons are also provided to independently pad each input channel. Finally there's a button that controls the Phones output, configuring whether it is monitoring outputs 1&2 or outputs 3&4. This allows for A/B switching between two mixes, if you set up the outputs appropriately in software. The device connects to your computer via standard USB 2 cable. It is provided with a small DC power supply, enabling use of the device without an active USB connection. The power supply can be used in addition to the USB connection to ensure a clean, noiseless power feed.On Mac it will be detected immediately, on Windows you need to download drivers from the Behringer website. These drivers include both standard Windows audio and ASIO support, and installs a systray icon which activates a control panel. This control panel allows changing buffer settings, bitrate, sample rate, and so on.I have used the device in both Windows 10 and macOS High Sierra, using Adobe Audition, Sony Sound Forge and other audio apps. All apps will see four inputs and four outputs, and each can be used independently in a multi-track project. You can be recording to four new tracks while simultaneously playing back four already recorded tracks. Thanks to the four mic pre-amps, you can record up to four microphones directly into the sound card. Optional 48V phantom power means it can work with condenser mics and any other that need power supplied. It is therefore an extremely handy device to take on the road, allowing you to record and play back with only this soundcard and a computer or laptop, no mixer required. You can control the gain of each input independently. Playback settings are more limited in hardware - you can only control the volume of outputs 1 and 2. Control of outputs 3 and 4 needs to be done in software.Audio quality is excellent. The device supports full 24bit / 192khz in both recording and playback. I am no expert sound engineer, but I have made recordings direct into the device from a couple of Behringer condenser microphones, and I have used it for playing back up to four channels simultaneously in live theatre productions. In all cases it sounded great, with no noticeable noise, hum or distortion. This is a really excellent and flexible sound card. It has enough inputs and outputs to cover a variety of requirements, yet is still small and portable enough to be thrown in a bag and taken anywhere it's needed. As mentioned I've used it to record from a couple of condenser microphones, and also to provide the music and sound effects for several theatre productions. In addition I'm also now using it as my main PC sound card. Because it has four outputs, I can use it for basic quadraphonic surround sound - there's a setting for 4.0 surround in Windows and macOS sound preferences. Connected to a decent amplifier and speakers it provides really superb audio quality for music and watching movies.Highly recommended for anyone who needs top quality recording and playback of up to four in and four out. I think it's excellent value for the money considering everything it can do.Behringer have a hit-and-miss reputation with some of their equipment, but their mixers and interfaces are actually pretty highly regarded. The first thing I noticed about this unit is the high build quality - the case is all steel and not plastic. It's reassuringly heavy, and the knobs feel pretty solid.I bought this as an upgrade from an M-Audio M-Track with 2 preamps, because I needed the extra inputs. I haven't done a scientific comparison of the audio quality but after some testing I am very pleased with the quality of the preamps. They offer much higher gain and lower noise than the M-Audio interface, which is very valuable to me as I do a lot of ambient classical recording where good, clean gain really counts. It loses a star because the software isn't great. I downloaded the latest driver from the website rather and while it does work perfectly, I was unable to change the sample rate from 192kHz. I don't think I am doing anything wrong, and there are many forum posts online about similar problems with the driver. One thing that can confuse people about this unit - it has a mains adapter but it CAN also run only on power from the USB connection ("bus powered"). I was able to run 4 condenser microphones with 48V phantom power from this with it only getting power from my laptop's USB port and it worked flawlessly. I guess the power supply is in case you have microphones that require more power.I've had an identical problem with two UMC404HD's and I am pretty sure it's an issue with the interface rather than my system. I'm running Logic Pro X and all 4 input channels from the UMC work fine. The problem I've had is that the speaker outputs work for about 15-20 seconds then crackle and disappear completely. Exactly the same thing happens if I use headphones. I can work around it by switching the output to my Mackie mixer desk and then the speakers and headphones work perfectly. It's very weird that I've had this problem with both UMC's and it would seem from comments on various blogs that I am not alone. I have checked that it isn't a simple buffering issue and I have tried disconnecting and re-connecting various inputs, outputs, mains leads and USB cables. My first unit was returned to Amazon and I received a full refund as they were out of stock and my second unit has just been returned to another dealer who has agreed that there does indeed seem to be an issue. I am currently using my PreSonus AudioBox iTwo (which I only stopped using as I wanted 4 inputs which the Behringer offers) and the PreSonus works perfectly in every respect so I'm confident that the problem lies with Behringer, not my setup. Interestingly, at the time Amazon were out of stock so were most other dealers so I did wonder if Behringer had recalled all product or withheld shipping whilst they addressed the issue.Original unit was a complete let down when it arrived. First, the driver just hit the doorbell and was driving away as I got to the door to collect the parcel - he didn't even know if we were in!Second, the box was damaged, the tape was coming off the box, which was to all intents open!I have a 2 channel Behringer U-PHORIA UMC204HD already and it is an awesome audio and MIDI interface.I wanted the 4 channel Behringer U-PHORIA UMC404HD as my humble musical exploits are starting to expand a little more now - AND - after searching for many years, I have been lucky enough to buy an old school 80's Yamaha Synth again, that I had back then.Returned as defective - BUT - now ordered a replacement which works exactly as expected. Compliments to the delivery driver too for taking care of my item. As he says, it is how they are trained, and to treat parcels as they would want theirs treated.I've tested the new interface now - all 4 audio channels work exactly as expected. The MIDI IN and MIDI OUT channels work perfectly too.Purchased this to replace my Roland QuadCapture which had given up the ghost. I do a lot of voice over work, and also record and produce a weekly radio show, so I wanted something not too expensive, but with more inputs/outputs than the previous interface, so I didn’t have to keep unplugging equipment/changing settings. The Behringer works like an absolute dream. They could charge twice the price and I’d still be recommending it. The signal is clean throughout, and I really like the ability to instantly switch listening back to the mix/monitor in mono/stereo, which is essential in many instances. Phantom power where necessary and handy “pad” feature on each input to help control incoming amplitude if needed. No drivers to install, it’s plug and play.I haven’t had a single issue with it, since purchase. It sits happily on my desk, atop the DBX286s, and generally has made my workflow much more effective, since switching. For the price, a definite 6 out of 5 stars - it’s great!
