When I first got these I put the smallest tips on them (thinking my lugholes are on the small side) out of the four sizes provided, plugged them in, and was massively disappointed by the shrill, tinny sound they put out. I was ready to ditch them until I saw a review for the standard ATH-CKS1100 that said to make sure you get tips that fit properly, so I got some aftermarket triple-flange tips and then experimented with different combinations, finally settling on small triple-flange for the left earpiece and medium standard for the right.I now see why they cost as much as they do, as the sound they put out is just fantastic. The bass is full and balanced without ever being overpowering, and the soundstage is big & wide, particularly for soundtracks (listening to the Blade Runner 2049 soundtrack gave me goosebumps) and anything else that's orchestral/layered, or has high dynamic range. The high resolution function helps to bring out the details of most recordings (you'll probably hear things you didn't know were there) and can even make a recording that's heavily compressed sound dynamic. Fully recommended!
